| How many people have played around with the SoD Mercs? I resubbed my accounts to start getting used to the game again but I don't have SoD on either account and I am wondering how much fun it might be to run around with a healer and tank merc to go with my wizard/enchanter for a bit until the new server opens. | |

| They're pretty crazy - keep in mind all expansions are enabled for free on Test - so just patch up test and try it out yourself. (testeverquest.exe or the change client tab in the upper right of the EQ logo if you're using Station Launcher)
Just make a separate copy of EQ to another directory if you want to keep down patch time between versions.

| The healer mercs are good, perhaps a bit too good balance wise. I have had them in-group with a cleric bot (for backup), and cannot recall ever needing to step in. There were bugs where they would stop healing, but they seem to have been fixed. Note that I haven't used a merc in a couple of months.
I never got around to trying the tank merc. I don't think they have disciplines, and I don't know their weapon's agro generating ability.

| Yep. Note that no money goes with you, and all items on your char become no-drop. They are trying to prevent testcopy chars from messing up the economy on test.
All expansions are enabled, all veteran rewards are available, and exp is doubled. There is also a /testbuff command for new characters which raise them to L25 and give them level appropriate (no-drop) gear.

| well after spending a few hours each of the last 2 nights getting used to the game and my 2boxing by clearing out Seb a couple times, I gathered about 5k in plat from that, and I am ready to go get mercs and try them out next time I play. The XP modifier is nice on Test, I noticed XP gain on both characters just from the greens and light blues in Seb. | |

| ok i must be a total retard... so i bought a merc and then was messing with the commands.. I dismissed him. So i guess that meant i had to rebuy.. so i did that and played with my mercs for a bit... i ran out of money and one of them quit on me. Does this mean I have to rebuy yet again? I used all my Sebilis farming money already on the bright side, my test run in Plane of Fire went well, i was totally wrecking the zone with no more need for kiting | |

| Yep, you need to rebuy if the merc leaves.
They supposedly tell you when they are about to leave, but the one time it happened to me I missed the message.
